Introit
He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our in- | iquities;*
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes | we are healed.

For my soul is full of | troubles,*
and my life draws near | to Sheol.

O LORD, God of my sal- | vation;*
I cry out day and night be- | fore you.

You have put me in the depths | of the pit,*
in the regions | dark and deep.

Your wrath lies heavy up- | on me,*
and you overwhelm me with | all your waves.

My eye grows dim through | sorrow.*
Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my | hands to you.

For my soul is full of | troubles,*
and my life draws near | to Sheol.

COLLECT
O God, Creator of heaven and earth, grant that as the crucified body of Your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with Him the coming of the third day, and rise with Him to newness of life, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

HYMN
LSB 419, When in Dust to Thee

1 Savior, when in dust to Thee
Low we bow the_adoring knee;
When, repentant, to the skies
Scarce we lift our weeping eyes;
O, by all Thy pains and woe
Suffered once for us below,
Bending from Thy throne on high,
Hear our penitential cry!
3  By Thine hour of dire despair,
By Thine agony of prayer,
By the cross, the nail, the thorn,
Piercing spear, and torturing scorn,
By the gloom that veiled the skies
O’er the dreadful sacrifice,
Listen to our humble sigh;
Hear our penitential cry!
2 By Thy helpless infant years,
By Thy life of want and tears,
By Thy days of deep distress
In the savage wilderness,
By the dread, mysterious hour
Of the_insulting tempter’s pow’r,
Turn, O turn a fav’ring eye;
Hear our penitential cry!
By Thy deep expiring groan,
By the sad sepulchral stone,
By the vault whose dark abode
Held in vain the rising God,
O, from earth to heav’n restored,
Mighty, reascended Lord,
Bending from Thy throne on high,
Hear our penitential cry!

LORD’S PRAYER

PRAYERS FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS
Suggest prayer for Saturday: For faithfulness until the end; for the renewal of faith of those who have fallen away or whose faith is faltering; for receptive hearts and minds to the preaching of God’s Word; for pastors and people as they prepare to administer and receive Christ’s holy gifts.

LUTHER’S MORNING PRAYER

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
